Why Alexa by Amazon is being retired

Amazon the parent company to Alexa.com has announced that it will be retiring the website after 25 years of service. As from May 1, 2022, Alexa will no longer be functional. The site has been providing information about rankings, convertions, SEO and more information about other websites worldwide.

This comes as a surprise to many as the website is a reference and very helpful to many web users. It is not so clear why the website is being shut down.
