Charles Hillary Biography: Quick Facts, Age, Demise

Charles Hillary Nkwanga (Born in October 1959) was a renowned veteran journalist and a media guru. Charles Hillary was born in Zanzibar’s Jang’ombe ward, where he spent his early childhood. Later, Charles became interested in the media, and he joined Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam (RTD) as a journalist in 1981, where he worked for the media corporation for 13 years. Charles joined Deutsche Welle (DW) Radio in Germany and later the BBC.

After working with international media, in 2015, he returned to Tanzania to work as the head of digital media at Uhai Radio at Azam Media. In 2023, Charles was appointed as head of the communications directorate at the Zanzibar State House, where he worked until his demise.

Death

Charles Hillary Nkwanga died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, while being taken to Muhimbili National Hospital after a short illness, according to a statement from the Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation. Condolences to family and friends.
