Kenyan social entrepreneur Nelly Cheboi also known as Kosi has been named CNN Hero of The Year for her work at Techlit Africa. Techlit Africa is an American non-profit organization that was formed by Nelly Cheboi and Tyler Cinnnamon in 2016 to help underprivileged school children build labs and donate computers.
Nelly Cheboi together with Tyler Cinnnamon quit a well paying job, relocated to Kenya where they have serve more than 10 schools. Equipping them with skills such as Coding, Digital Marketing, Touch typing, Graphic Design and other valuable skills. These skills will help students create more opportunities and become self-sustaining in future. She is indeed a hero.
Nelly plans to expand Techlit operations so as she can be able to reach more schools. According to CNN, Nelly plans to reach more than 100 schools.
Nelly won the CNN Hero of The Year prize which comes with several benefits which include;
- $100,000 to expand her work
- $10,000 cash award
- $300,000 grant from Elevate Prize, a CNN partner
- $200,000 additional support for her non-profit
